Abstract

A Phanerozoic sequence except Carboniferous, has been identified in the eastern part of the Kinnaur district.· The strata have yielded a rich invertebrate fauna and ichnofossil assemblage besides plant fossils of Lower Permian age. Four sedimentary cycles punctuated by the Cambrian, Caledonian, Hercynian and Upper Callovian disruptions are identifiable, The rocks of this area have suffered from at least two phases of folding, as reflected in both major and minor structures.
